Scouting for Food

February 6th - Today was the pickup day for scouting for food. We collected over 900 pounds of food! Great job to everyone who helped today and last weekend. The Women's Center will greatly appreciate the food they will be recieving soon.

Mall Expo

Everyone should now have a name to look up for the next meeting. If you need to check spelling, look at the list of names below.

The mall expo is coming up soon!! We need to work hard these next weeks on getting information together and making our display. To clear up our current ideas for the expo, we have decided to make a presentation showing many people who have had a big effect on America as well as Boy Scouts. We want to pick 20 to 30 people from history that we can find information about. A tentative list that Chad has come up with is:

  • James Keller
  • Susan Brownell Anthony
  • Daniel Boone
  • Thomas Alva Edison
  • Dwight David Eisenhower
  • John Muir
  • Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Sacajawea
  • Walter Reed
  • Eleanor Roosevelt
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Jim Thorne
  • Alexander Graham Bell
  • Mark Twain
  • Albert Einstein
  • Benjamin Franklin
  • Matthew Henson
  • Robert E. Lee
  • Chief Plenty Coups
  • Henry David Thoreau
  • Padre Junipero Serra
  • Whitney Young, Jr.
  • I. M. Pei
  • John F. Kennedy
  • George Washington
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt
  • Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • Patrick Henry
  • William Allen White
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Ernest THomson Seton
  • Daniel Carter Beard
  • James E. West

Here is another list that I found - these are all eagle scouts:

  • Willie Banks - Olympian, Former World Record Holder, Triple Jump and Long Jump
  • Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr. - Former Secretary of the Treasury and Former United States Senator, Texas
  • The Honorable Bill Bradley - United States Senator, New Jersey
  • Milton A. Caniff - Cartoonist
  • William C. DeVries, M.D. - Surgeon and Educator, Transplanted first artificial heart
  • Thomas Foley - Former Speaker of the House and Former United States Congressman, Washington
  • The Honorable Gerald R. Ford - 38th President of the United States
  • Michael Kahn - Stage Director, Academy AwardWinning Film Editor
  • John Koncak - Center, Orlando Magic, National Basketball Association
  • James A. Lovell Jr. - Apollo Astronaut and Business Executive
  • The Honorable Richard G. Lugar - United States Senator, Indiana
  • J. Willard Marriott Jr. - Chairman of the Board and President, Marriott Corporation
  • The Honorable Sam Nunn - United States Senator, Georgia
  • H. Ross Perot - Founder, Electronic Data Systems Corporation and The Perot Group
  • Harris Salsbury - Pulitzer PrizeWinning Author
  • Steven Spielberg - Film Director and Producer
  • Togo West - Secretary of the Army

If you have any extra time and wish to help, try finding information on one or two of these people on the internet and emailing me the web page. Hopefully, Febraury's meetings will be productive toward the March deadline for our presentation.

Scout Sunday

Scout Sunday will be on February 13. Please check with your parents before next meeting to see if you can come. We will be at Macedonia for both services. We really need people for this event becasue this is usually a big draw for our pack and troop.

BBQ Chicken Dinner

The annual BBQ chicken dinner will be on Saturday, March 13, starting at 7:00am at the church. Everyone should by now have their tickets to sell indiviually. $1.00 out of the $6.00 that each of these costs will go to to scout's account. There will be a work day on Sunday, February 21 at 1:00pm for people to help repaint the sign. Help will also be needed on the day before the BBQ to help set up, and during and after the dinner. All scouts that help will get a portion of the profits in their scout account. Money will divided up by the number of hours worked by each scout.

Note: Extra tickets are available. Money from ticket sales is due 10 days before the dinner.

Ski Trip

Note: The ski trip has been delayed due to bad weather. Actually, relatively good weather, but that is the problem. =( A new day will be set soon.

The ski trip is coming up soon (2/13) and scouts need to make sure they have turned in their permission slip and money by February 11th. If you have lost your permission slip and you have a printer, you should be able to print this permission slip online.
